Are our human rights conundrum, are on the chopping block as Democrats loudly and constantly assert, or is it just political rhetoric and theater? If those rights are under attack, then by whom, how, and why? I don’t believe they are, even as I would argue that the dominant narrative in our country today suggests there is a continuous and purposeful effort to erode those once-unalienable rights.
Media Narratives Paint Republicans as Threat:-
Listen to or read social media, TV, or almost anything on progressive cable, and you would have no choice but to believe Republicans are systematically and evilly out to destroy our fundamental freedoms resting on a bedrock foundation of human rights. Whether through honest belief or as a cynical reaction to Trump’s focus on resetting our country’s institutions and a return to our conservative past, everything the Trump Administration does on many topics is homogenized into that single belief to keep the message clean and easy to regurgitate.
Trump is intentionally destroying our human rights
Low information but highly energized Progressives attempt to obscure all the issues that together allow for our freedom and prosperity, such as:
- A requirement for strong leadership is seen as authoritarianism
- Accountability is seen as political exploitation
- A corruption-free government/big business must avoid cronyism that breeds inefficiencies and ever more corruption
- Free speech, not to be confused with speech that has as its objective the overthrow of the country or important moral systems
- Overclassification and political censorship knowingly hide the foibles of our leaders.
- The entire potpourri of LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality nonsense that moved center stage and undercuts vital central tenets is a distraction.
- Environmental and social justice distract from essential truths our society requires to move forward as a whole, not in our individual fiefdoms.
- Secure borders that reinforce the idea that we are an intact country with our customs, rights, and responsibilities, which are mandatory for the good of the whole.
And, on and on. We are conditioned by a failed education system and bleating progressive politicians into believing that there is malevolent intent in everything. At least another 100 issues resonate with this or that person, leading many to believe their human rights are under attack, with no ability to convince them otherwise.
People no longer simply disagree with a policy; they take everything personally, having been conditioned to believe they are being individually singled out within the various silos that progressives have created. This creates a different kind of anger and passion than people typically experience when they simply disagree with something.
What is a Human Right?
Even the definition of what constitutes a human right bitterly divides us. Traditionally, human rights meant:
Human rights were viewed as inherent, inalienable liberties granted by a Creator, rather than privileges bestowed by governments.
While today, there’s been a not-so-subtle shift, especially if you are under 40.
The concept of human rights for young people in America has evolved from a paternalistic model—where children were seen as property or dependents—to a more rights-based framework that recognizes youth as individuals with agency, dignity, and legal protections, with the government assuming equivalent parents’ rights when they reach kidulthood.
The old definition acknowledges a societal expectation of conformity in children, while the new definition has essentially made children free agents. We are reaping the results of another failed concept as we negotiate with 7-year-old terrorists who demand what they want or else! Eventually, that 7-year-old grows up to be a 22-year-old teacher (still living at home) who knows only that she’s entitled, educated, and smart, but still harbors massive inferiority anxiety and wonders how her life will evolve.
Human Rights have become little more than a rallying cry, instead of something most can explain logically and succinctly. Actual human rights vary to an extent based on where you live.
- In most of Africa, access to clean drinking water and sufficient food is considered a fundamental human right.
- Move over to Russia, and your human rights are not guaranteed, but are only subject to the State’s needs. Try protesting the Ukraine war and see which prison you are sent to.
- In China, you can be told whether you can procreate and how many children you can have. If you disagree, you are subject to forced sterilization.
- In much of Europe and the United States, your ability to succeed is always subject to myriad rules and restrictions. If you are failing, a nanny state will decide exactly what you can have and what you cannot, i.e., medical insurance, food assistance, housing and utility assistance, etc. Nothing is guaranteed, giving lie to those do-gooders who loudly proclaim you are endowed with human rights, but then see them disappear at the whim of this or that law or funding mechanism.
Ultimately, we are all on our own!
Conclusion:-
Human rights are nothing more than a catchphrase for what governments, human rights activists, and NGOs claim them to be. In the final analysis, no one can guarantee your rights except yourself, as you position yourself throughout life for success or failure through your own efforts and choices. The choices we make from an early age determine the degree of freedom we have. Two generations into the newer definition of human rights, and it is evident to all that the under-40 crowd has less of everything except debt, depression, and loneliness. The progressives’ experiment with our lives has failed. The sooner we recognize this and return to God, self-sufficiency, effort, and common sense, the better.
It took two generations to get the way we are today. Our challenge is to return to the other side within the next twenty years. I believe it is both doable and essential that we have a national reckoning so we can resume a path that is sane and fulfilling.
It won’t be easy, but it is the only way our country can survive and prosper.
