Last Saturday, I published an article in American Thinker titled “To Survive, America Must Find A Beneficial Equilibrium.” A lively back-and-forth ensued, with many voicing much the same opinion: our government has become the primary impediment to what Americans care about most — living our lives in peace and prosperity, rather than feeling like the enemy. One reader went so far as to evoke Lavrentiy Beria’s famous line… “Show me the man, and I’ll show you the crime,” expressing his feelings concerning the untrustworthiness of our government and how it mistreats citizens while seemingly embracing illegals. Much of the feedback centered on the negative effects of rampant illegal immigration and its deleterious effects on the American psyche.

While I can’t disagree, that got me thinking. The reality of what is possible, juxtaposed against the demands of a MAGA majority, is in conflict. There are literally millions of illegal aliens living here, sometimes for a short period of time, but also some living here for decades, in the shadows, some living on welfare, and many working and integrated into our economic system. That’s reality.

The numbers are staggering. According to Pew’s numbers, approximately 26.238 million non-citizens have arrived here since the year 2000 and remain. In 2025 and to date, Donald Trump’s policy of expelling illegal immigrants has resulted in much smaller numbers than publicly acknowledged, with less than 800,000 likely provable. However, due to various factors, last year saw the first drop in our foreign-born population, which, according to Pew and CBP, may be as large as 1.6 million, factoring in self-deportations. These may be the highest numbers of forced and voluntary removals we’ll experience—2025 is likely the peak, for future removals.

Invasion’ or Immigration Crisis? Divided Border Policy:-

Reasons are many and complex, but given the total number of removals during the Obama years (2.7 million), with a much smaller number attributed to self-removal, it’s hard to see many of the millions here today leaving over the next three years of Trump’s term.

Promoters of illegal immigration are everywhere. From sanctuary States, human rights groups, politicians, independents, leftists, too many business owners, and especially the courts that impute rights equal to those of American citizens, leaving no functional way to empty our country of what many of my friends characterize as an invasion, threatening the overthrow of American civil and societal balance.

There has to be a better way!

We’ve already hit a brick wall with the SAVE Act. Maybe it gets passed, maybe it doesn’t in its current form. However, the SAVE Act does not directly confront the underlying problem—illegal and legal aliens that come here and don’t assimilate. Assimilation is the magic that takes people from foreigners and converts them into contributing Americans, regardless of origin. That process has reliably worked since the existence of our country until about 1990. It is beyond the scope of this essay to speculate on how that change came about. I will venture that increased mobility worldwide is the central reason; you likely have your own thesis.

So, now that the hordes are here, how do we adapt to ensure the survival of traditional America, the America that has done so much good for its own citizens and, by extension, the world, before we collapse under the weight of too many non-assimilated aliens? A corollary question is: how does the nation come together and agree on the necessity of assimilation, rather than allowing tribal constituencies to establish themselves and slowly but inexorably reshape America in their image? The final question is, how do we get people to understand that the present system is unsustainable and must be radically reformed?

Public opinion polls, until recently, were clear: Americans wanted to see all illegal aliens removed. However, when the realization set in that these people were not leaving willingly, public opinion weakened when they saw how the sausage was being made. A voting public with little learned experience and hearts of gold, NGOs funded by shadowy OPM (Other People’s Money), felt the pain of the pitiful immigrant. Not realizing that all of life is a zero-sum game and that the cost of supporting non-assimilable individuals is incredibly expensive and must be paid for by the half of us who actually work. We are experiencing a higher cost of living, competition for jobs, reduced educational attainment for many, and what amounts to a bifurcated legal system that treats immigrants as victims instead of perpetrators, much of the time. Forget anything you hear about immigrants being less violent; most Blue States don’t even record the immigration status of arrestees, so they have no idea.

Answer To Dilemma:-

The answer to our dilemma is clear to me:

We need an easy-to-understand set of Federal laws that a clear majority of the American people can understand, get behind, and agitate for, affirming that Americans are not anti-immigration, but instead are pro-rules:

  1. Statement of Intent: All aliens are temporary guests of the United States and possess only limited rights until and unless they are granted U.S. Citizenship.
  2. Future illegal aliens will be immediately deported without any right to due process, including border crossers, visa holders no longer in compliance with their visa restrictions, and anyone who demonstrates against the United States while being our guest.
  3. Immigrants must assimilate within 3 years. Assimilation is defined as not being a public charge (i.e., not on welfare), not having been charged with or convicted of a felony, must read and speak English, must be gainfully employed by a for-profit company, and must not be involved in any anti-American protests or other acts of civil disobedience. Barring that, removal is automatic and non-appealable.
  4. End birthright citizenship.
  5. All applicants for naturalization must wait 10 years before applying. If approved for citizenship, such status may be revoked for a variety of defined offenses and reasons, provided their due process rights have been respected.
  6. End all lottery or chain-migration programs currently enabled by law.

It’s been far too long since sanity has reigned on the immigration front. If we are to begin to reclaim our citizens’ birthright, it starts here, with simple and lawful immigration that enhances and does not detract from traditional Americana. It will take another generation, maybe longer, to digest all that’s gone wrong in our country, starting with education, immigration, and a judicial system that is more joke than justice-centered. But that’s another essay for another day.

Conclusion:-

Today, we must man the ramparts and repel all those who come here for our goodies, not for the traditional American experience, which is far from guaranteed and not appropriate for everyone. I intentionally left out another fundamental question: that of the suitability of Muslims who, almost by definition, don’t plan to assimilate. Again, another subject for another essay.

God Bless America!
